⚠️ ADDED ON AUDIT — the Australian competitors this synthesis omitted
These were verified in the Aggregators And Shared-Cost Support Models and
Precedent Hunt chapters but never reached this document. They are the most
decision-relevant evidence in the corpus, because they sit inside the gap the concept
claims is empty ("self-guided autonomy at a guided level of support, priced
between the $159 unsupported day tour and the $195–275 guided ride").
| Competitor | Region | Price | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Escapegoat Adventures — self-guided wine e-bike tour | McLaren Vale, SA | A$175pp | Self-guided autonomy, e-bike, wine region, South Australia — inside the claimed gap, and absent from the concept's competitor table |
| TrailHopper Barossa | Barossa | A$89.95–99.95pp | 14 stops, daily, "All guests travel on the same… hop-on, hop-off wine tour service" — unrelated customers already sharing a vehicle in the target region |
| TrailHopper all-inclusive tier | Barossa | A$189.95 | 4 wineries, lunch, pre-booked tastings — the same price as the modelled A$189 product, not half |
| iHop Hunter Valley | Hunter | continuous hourly loop, 15 stops, 40+ venues | The circulating-loop model, already running in Australia |
| Hunter Valley Hop | Hunter | A$35/head | The floor price for "nobody has to drive" |
The Aggregators chapters' own assessment, which this synthesis did not carry:
"TrailHopper is also the sharpest competitive threat, not the guided bike tours.
It solves the same problem — nobody has to drive — for half the price."Two corrections to that assessment, both of which make it worse, not better.
The "half the price" comparison uses TrailHopper's transport-only tier against
the full modelled product; like-for-like it is A$189.95 against A$189 — the same
price. So TrailHopper is not cheaper on the comparable tier; it is the same
price with lunch and tastings already included, running daily, today, in the
Barossa. See X-2 in the Audit of the aggregator and shared-support research
chapter.
E-bike hire, per day
France: Détours de Loire €30 · Bourgogne Evasion €45 · France Bike Rentals €55
Germany: Moselbike €29 · Velodocs €30 · Rheingau €29.50 · Cochem €25–30
USA: Wine Country Bikes $75 · Napa Valley Bike Tours $94
NZ: On Yer Bike $85–95 · Explore Marlborough $120 · Central Cycle Trail $125
Canada: Grape Escape $60 · Hoodoo $100
Australia (comparator): Tour de Vines AUD $25/day as a tour add-on
The e-bike premium over a standard bike runs +33% to +85%, clustering near +50%.
On multi-day European packages the e-bike supplement is a flat €65–€350 per week
(Discover France €65, Cycling Rentals €190, Puglia €245, Top Bike/Portugal Cycling
Holidays €300, Portugal Bike €350, Wine Country Bikes USD $49/day, UTracks AUD
$160–290).
Bike delivery to a guest's own accommodation
Only three published prices exist in the world:
⚠️ CORRECTED — the table below has four rows, and a fifth Australian price exists
in the project (Deluxe Ebike Tours, McLaren Vale: door delivery A$120/day vs
A$100 self-collect, in the Precedent Hunt chapter). The New World chapters
separately claim "only one on three continents". Three different counts of the
same thing. Read as: at least five published delivery prices are known to this
project. See the 7. Cross-file consistency audit chapter.
Published prices found:
| Operator | Price |
|---|---|
| Takaro Trails, Hawke's Bay | "from NZ$25 per person" |
| Zoom Leisure, Niagara | CAD $10 within 8 km, $20 rural NOTL, minimum 2 bikes, no e-bikes |
| Bloomfield Bicycle, PEC (historic) | CAD $25 first bike + $5 each additional, each way, 48 h notice, 9am delivery / 6pm collection only |
| Freedom Bike Shop, Penticton | "Delivery/Pick-up fees start @ $50/reservation" |
Everyone else who delivers — Napier City Bike Hire, Bay Cycles, Sonoma Adventures,
bikeiberia, E-Bike 4 Langhe, Italy Cycling Tour, Alsa Cyclo Tours, Abicyclette —
does not publish a fee.
$25 per person is small against an AUD $189pp working price. Door delivery is
affordable to include rather than to charge for — and Bloomfield's
"$25 first + $5 each additional, each way" is a ready-made marginal-cost curve to
model from.
Multi-day self-guided, for context on the ceiling
A 6–8 day self-guided wine-region tour clusters at €1,100–€2,000pp in Europe
(Girolibero Langhe €1,099 is the floor; Portugal Bike Alentejo €1,800–2,390 the top
of the mainstream), £869–£1,839 through the UK packagers, and AUD $1,390–2,890
through UTracks. Adding a guide and a van is +40–60% (Top Bike Douro: €1,574 →
€2,220, or about €92 per person per riding day for the van and guide). The US
premium guided tier is USD $4,499–5,999 for six days (Backroads).
Two useful reference points for the Australian model. UTracks — an Australian
company — charges AUD $1,390pp for four days in Burgundy with no van and no rescue
promise. And the market's own price for putting a vehicle behind a self-guided
rider for a day is about €92, dedicated. The Cellar Door Cycling proposition is
that shared, it should cost a fraction of that.
