Hoodoo Adventures, Penticton — the one operator that prices rescue

The single most useful datapoint in the entire international scan [V, "Know Before
You Go" PDF, verbatim]:

"any extraction from the trail will incur a minimum $100 fee unless it is due to
a mechanical failure of one of Hoodoo Adventure Company's rental bikes that cannot
be fixed on the trail."

And on mechanicals: riders get "basic tools, a spare tube and a pump", are pointed
at two YouTube tube-change videos, and "I can call Hoodoo Adventures for other
mechanical assistance… There will be a charge for coming to change a tire."

Note the structure precisely, because it is the commercial answer to the hardest
question in the Australian model: rescue is chargeable by default at a CAD 100
floor, and free only when the operator's own equipment failed. That is a clean
liability line — the operator warrants its kit, not the rider's legs or
judgement. It is pay-per-incident rather than a subscription, so the broader
finding stands: no day pass, season pass or subscription for roving rescue exists
anywhere in the world.

For Cellar Door Cycling this suggests a two-tier structure: rescue included in
the package price (because that is the product), but a published excess or
call-out fee for avoidable extractions — which both funds the marginal trip and,
more importantly, discourages the frivolous ones that would wreck the van's
circulation time.

Shared shuttles across unrelated customers, with a published minimum [V, Booking &
Cancellation Policies PDF]:

"Daily shuttles require a minimum of 4 people; For groups of fewer than 4, a
minimum charge will apply to cover up to 4 spaces in order to run."

Unrelated customers are pooled toward a 4-person threshold on the scheduled Myra
Canyon / Chute Lake / Glenfir runs. Custom shuttles (Naramata, Summerland, Osoyoos,
Oliver, Peachland…) are "often private" with "a base charge for up to 4 people,
with per person rates for every additional person." Group discounts: scheduled
shuttles 5% (6–12) / 10% (13+); tours 10% / 15%.

Four seats is the published break-even for a shared van run in a wine region.
That is a much lower and more encouraging number than the 6–8 rider van threshold
published in Italy and Portugal — because a shuttle run is short and a tour van is
all day. The Australian model needs to know which of the two it resembles.

Per-person fares remain hidden inside the FlyBook cart [GAP] — "Prices are
subject to change without notice due to the fluctuation in gas prices."

Other Hoodoo detail [V]: "Daily shuttles depart from our facility each morning
as long as trail conditions permit" to Myra Canyon, Chute Lake and Glenfir
Trailhead, plus KVR shuttles to "Chute Lake, Myra Canyon, Rock Creek, Midway,
Beaverdell and Castlegar". "Space is limited", pre-reservation recommended.
Rentals: e-bike (Velec) $100/day; "Half-day rentals cannot be reserved in
advance and start at 1 pm only", 4 hours or less. Comfort bikes (Cannondale, Electra
Townie) priced only inside the booking system.

Velo Vino Cycle Wine Tour $175/person, 4 hours — with eight scheduled departures
for the entire 2026 season (May 2, 9; Jun 11; Jul 12, 20; Aug 16; Sep 12; Oct 17).

A stark demand-density signal, and a caution. An established Penticton operator
in a major wine region scheduled its flagship bike-and-wine tour eight times in a
year. Kayak Wine Tour $165. 10% midweek discount for seniors/stay-at-home parents
(code Weekday10). Booking engine TheFlyBook, JS-only [GAP on seat prices].

A second shared-cost levy, at the smallest scale yet [V]: Hoodoo charges a
$1 per participant "Destination Management Fee" on all Naramata-area activities,
funding Village of Naramata tourism, plus a $1 FlyBook booking fee.

Alongside Bernkastel's €1.70/night Gästebeitrag, this is the second verified
example of a per-head levy collected by an operator on behalf of a destination
— and the cheapest. It shows the mechanism works at a dollar.

Seasonality: Hoodoo runs 1 May – 15 Oct, and it has a real off-season line
— snowshoe tours $65–$110 and a climbing wall.

Myra Canyon Bicycle Rental & Tours

  13 October 2026, e-bike windows 9–12 and 1–4.
• Guided half-day (min 2) and self-guided full-day (min 4) tours "include pick-up
  and drop-off transportation at your accommodation in Kelowna or West Kelowna"
  plus bike, helmet, water and wine tasting [DIRECTORY: Tourism Kelowna].
• Booking: Checkfront + Square.

Vivid Tours / Okanagan E-Bike Rentals

  ($169 variant; SUMMER code −$10), 6 hours 10:30–16:30, group 2–14, six Lake
  Country wineries. Includes NCM e-bike, all tasting fees, and "Luxury Touring
  Vehicles" — i.e. van sag support bundled into a sub-$200 day product. Claims
  1,400+ 5-star reviews. Booking: Checkfront.

The nearest price-and-support comparator to the Australian $189pp working
figure, and it includes tasting fees and a van. Worth studying closely.

Lakeside Eco-Sports

  self-guided and guided versions of the same e-bike wine tour (FareHarbor items
  504485 self-guided / 504488 guided). Self-guided includes e-bike, helmet, bag,
  lock, phone mount and "a mobile navigation app featuring the complete cycling
  route, turn-by-turn directions", 3 venues + farm-to-table lunch, 16+.
• Price gated behind FareHarbor [GAP] — frustrating, because the
  guided/self-guided delta on an identical route is exactly the number this project
  needs.

Epic Cycling, Penticton — the only operator anywhere pairing bikes with its own short-lets

  and nine vacation properties: Casa Cereza (Naramata Bench), Desert Star Retreat,
  Naramata 12-Guest Luxury Property, Penticton 10-Guest Luxury Property, Skaha Hills
  Luxury Retreat, Skaha Lakeview Studio, Skyview Retreat, Beachfront Penthouse, Casa
  Roca (Mexico).
• E-bikes (Norco, Trek Verve+ 3): 2 h $45 / half-day (4 h) $65 / full day (8 h)
  $85. Trail bikes: 2 h $30 / half-day $40 / full day $50.
• Helmets and locks included; flat-tyre kits on trail bikes; e-bikes have flat pedals
  with SPD on request; pannier pack +$10; water bottles $5; late returns $25 per

  waiver" (amounts unstated).

• No multi-day rates, no delivery-to-accommodation, no rescue service published
  [GAP].

Closest structural match to the Australian concept anywhere in the world — minus
the roving van. They own the beds and the bikes. Cellar Door Cycling
deliberately owns neither the beds nor (initially) the bikes, and owns the van
instead. Epic Cycling is the natural test of whether that inversion is right: they
have every advantage of integration and still don't run a support van.

Freedom Bike Shop, Penticton

  @ $50/reservation and are based on time, distance & asset availability" and a
  "$25 per bike damage policy covering up to $250 in bike damage" — a neat
  insurance-upsell precedent. Included: "Basic route recommendations, Local trail
  advice"; discounted 3-day, 5-day, 1- and 2-week rates exist but base rental rates
  are not published [GAP]. Also rents travel cases and offers boxing.

Bench d'Or, Naramata — the winery-funded bike, in its simplest form

  offering complimentary one-day e-bike use to staying guests, Cannondale e-bikes,
  helmets provided ("legally required"), return by 4pm, day-use only, suggested
  rides to the rail trail, Penticton market, wineries and the Little Tunnel.

Top Cat Tours

  Shuttle, From $436.00", private charter, 07:00 pickup. The charter-fleet model,
  priced per vehicle rather than per seat.

Monashee Adventure Tours — a live business with a dead website

  Facebook page
  [DIRECTORY] advertises "Cycle winery Tours, Peddle and a Pint, Bike rentals,
  cyclists transport for self-guided touring" — note that last phrase, a
  self-guided transport product.
• Distribution failure, not business failure.

Cycle Okanagan / Okanagan Bike Tours

Cycle Okanagan — DNS does not resolve. Okanagan Bike Tours — HTTP 404. Both

Okanagan Rail Trail — a clean negative

  completed (not currently continuous)", ~7 km still undeveloped, serving communities
  of ~212,000. Project partners: City of Kelowna, Regional District of North Okanagan,
  District of Lake Country, City of Vernon, Friends of Okanagan Rail Trail.
• No shuttle, no rental partner scheme, no trail pass, no paid support service, no
  winery involvement. Publicly and philanthropically funded infrastructure with
  zero commercial service layer.
