Germany and Austria — consolidation, exact pricing, and the Weinradweg products

Sector consolidation is far greater than the brand count suggests

Austria Radreisen Gruppe [V] comprises Austria Radreisen
(founded 1981, Franz Xaver Angerer), Rotalis (1973) and Velotours (1983),
plus the platform radreiseprofi.com. Proof of the plumbing: Austria Radreisen's
own tour sitemap returns URLs on the radreiseprofi.com domain — one shared tour
database. Both Impressums list the same two Geschäftsführer, Franz X. Angerer and
Dietmar Tröbinger.

A shared technology stack across three "competitors" [V]:
Eurobike, Velociped and
Rückenwind all serve assets from an identical CMS
path (/.resources/eurofun-v2-module/…) with per-brand subfolders, and all three
carry the same content.priceTable.showAllPrices i18n key. Their Impressums show
three genuinely independent companies — so this is a shared vendor platform
(all three footers credit pixelart.at, Salzburg), not shared ownership.

Commercial implication: any new capability — a support app, live tracking, an
SOS button — would arrive for all three at once, or for none. The German-language
self-guided market's product roadmap is effectively controlled by one Salzburg
software agency.

Radissimo is effectively dead [V]: radissimo.at does not resolve;
radissimo.de serves only a WordPress maintenance page ("Der Wartungsmodus ist
eingeschaltet") with copyright frozen at 2021 and a single named proprietor;
radissimo.com redirects to a domain-for-sale listing. No formal insolvency
verified [GAP].

Donau Touristik has restructured its domains [V]: donautouristik.com 301s to
donaureisen.at; donauradweg.at now 301s to donauregion.at, the regional
tourism board, with UTM tracking — a generic route domain has passed from operator
to destination marketing. All four hostnames have broken TLS certificates, so
HTTPS fails outright. For a company selling packages online that is a live
commercial defect.

Radweg-Reisen, "Die Mosel Winzertour", 6 days / 5 nights [V]

The most transparent price card in the sector.

Einzelzimmerzuschlag €269. Rental bike €99; e-bike €269. Rücktransfer
€95 without bike, €139 with. Extra nights Koblenz DZ €89 / EZ €145.

Radweg-Reisen publishes 19 distinct Mosel itineraries from €429 (4N) to €1,529
(12N).

The rest of the Mosel / Rhine / Wachau price cards [V]

  app, 7-Tage-Hotline-Service, 3× Weinverkostung; bike rental excluded.
  Same length, same €749, same 3 tastings as Radweg-Reisen — these two compete on
  identical specs. Already publishing "Preise 2027".
• Eurobike, Winzertour am Rhein, 9d/8n, ab €1,199 — 3–4★ hotels,
  Weinhotels and Weingüter, briefing, luggage transfer, app + GPS, 3
  Weinverkostungen, service hotline. Printed route book €20; hotel garage
  €10–20/day; Rhine ferries €2.50–6.00 not included. Also Mosel-Radweg für
  Familien 8d ab €999 with a published Rücktransfer to Trier at €95 pp.
• Rückenwind, Rhein Winzertour, 8 nights — includes 3 Weinproben in Flonheim,
  Nierstein und Eltville, a Rhein-Schifffahrt Rüdesheim–St. Goar, digital route

"3 × Weinprobe" is the sector-standard unit across four different operators.
If an Australian weekend product needs a legible inclusion to price against, three
tastings is what the largest wine-cycling market in the world has settled on.

Luggage transfer — the mechanism

• Eurobike [V] is the only one stating it uses its own staff and vehicles:
  "wir holen Ihr Gepäck ab und transportieren es täglich in die nächste
  Unterkunft", delivered by 18:00, max 20 kg per piece, unlimited pieces on
  Originaltouren.
• Radweg-Reisen [V]: "von Hotel zu Hotel" — pickup at reception by 09:00. Not
  a branded van.
• Austria Radreisen [V]: reception by 09:00, delivered by 17:30, daily,
  no piece limit. The €49 Frühgepäck-Garantie bis 15:00 monetises the anxiety
  their own 17:30 SLA creates.
• Whether contractors or own vans do the work is otherwise not disclosed [GAP].

The €49 early-bag guarantee is a small, clean idea: the operator publishes a
slow default and then sells the fast version. A shared van could do exactly the
same — a standard "we'll get to you" and a paid "priority pickup" tier.

The critical small print: Originaltouren vs Partnertouren

Eurobike, Austria Radreisen and Donau Touristik all resell other operators'
product under their own brand, with materially worse service guarantees, disclosed
only in small print. Donau Touristik states it outright [V]: "Bei
Partnertouren der oben genannte Service NICHT gegeben ist." Luggage piece limits,
hotline access and support all degrade on partner tours.

The two DACH exceptions on rider transport

1. Donau Touristik [V] — on Distanztouren the Transportpauschale includes
   "Optionale Mitfahrt im Transportbus bei Bedarf" (optional ride in the
   transport bus if needed), requiring schriftliche Anmeldung. Liability cover
   up to €1,000 pp. They also run Ersatzradstationen for replacement bikes.
   This is the closest thing in Europe to a rider riding along with the luggage
   van — and it requires advance written booking, so it is not a rescue.
2. Eurobike [V] — the only operator with staffed local stations: Obertrum,
   Schärding, Kärnten, München, Pfalz (a German wine region), Bozen, Piemont,
   Madeira, Mallorca, Portugal. Pannenhilfe is a listed station function. Their
   Betreuung page: "Bei dringenden Fragen oder im Notfall ist stets ein Betreuer in
   Ihrer Nähe und greifbar" and pointedly "In keinem Callcenter 'hängen'
   bleiben." Framing: guests are "zwar selbstständig unterwegs, jedoch trotzdem nie
   alleine."

But read Eurobike's hours carefully. Their promise is "An 365 Tagen im Jahr sind
wir für Sie erreichbar" — 365 days ≠ 24 hours. The string "24 Stunden" appears
nowhere on their support pages. The 24 h number in their terms
(+43 1 31670-897, call-us Assistance International) is the insolvency-claims
line, not roadside assistance. No response-time promise, no stated hotline
languages, and no price or policy for a mid-day pickup [GAP].

Sector-wide: published support hours cluster at 7 days, ~08:00–20:00. Nobody
publishes 24/7. Nobody publishes a response SLA. Nobody publishes hotline
languages. Rückenwind publishes no hotline hours or emergency number at all
on its German or English service pages [GAP].

Abandonment, bluntest statement — Austria Radreisen AGB [V]: "Bei
Reiseabbruch besteht kein Anspruch auf anteilige Rückerstattung." (No pro-rata
refund if you abandon the trip.)

DACH scale and seasonality

• Rückenwind [V] — the only one publishing real guest numbers: 5,000+ guests
  in 2004; first exceeded 11,000 in 2017. Founded 1990, Oldenburg. Velo de
  Ville bike partnership since 2017. Claims "Radstrecken mit eigener
  Ausschilderung" — proprietary waymarking, unique in this set.
• Radweg-Reisen [V] — founded 2001 as Bodensee-Radweg Service; "knapp 30
  Mitarbeiter"; ~100 own-operated tours sold to Wiederverkäufer.
• Eurobike [V] — founded 1991, sister brand Eurohike 2004, "Über 30 Jahre
  Erfahrung". Guest volume, staff and fleet not published [GAP].
• Donau Touristik [V] — founded 1996; claims it initiated the first official
  signposting of the Donauradweg; owns MS Primadonna (2015).
• Season: roughly early April to mid-October across the board. Donau Touristik
  is the only one with a real winter answer — it pivots to river cruises
  (donautouristik.com redirects to a Winterreisen landing page). No DACH operator
  publishes what happens to vans or fleets over winter [GAP].
• Insolvency protection is a real differentiated cost [V]: Austrian operators use
  bank guarantees (Eurobike → Volksbank Oberösterreich; Austria Radreisen →
  Raiffeisenbank Region Schärding), each with a separate claims administrator.
  Velociped uses TourVERS, Hamburg. Membership of the post-Thomas-Cook
  Deutscher Reisesicherungsfonds could not be verified [GAP].

E-bike rental, and the partner-hotel model that replaces delivery

Three structural findings

1. Nobody delivers to the door; they distribute through hotels. Moselbike's
partner programme [V] inverts
the funding question: the operator capitalises the fleet, the hotel or Weingut
hosts it, Moselbike does all maintenance, "Kaution pro Bike 0 €", no minimum
contract term, and the host earns a "Provision für Vermietung" — framed as a
"WIN-WIN Situation". Commission rate not published [GAP]. Velodocs runs the
same shape with 15 partner hotels.

This is a genuinely different answer to the delivery problem, and cheaper than a
van. Instead of driving bikes to where the guests are, you pre-position bikes
at the properties where guests already stay and pay the host a commission. For an
Australian wine region with a cluster of short-lets and a few small hotels, a
hybrid — bikes parked at the ten biggest properties, van delivery for everyone
else — may beat pure door delivery on cost per hire.

2. The Wachau has no touring e-bike rental layer. Not a single private Wachau
e-bike operator with published delivery could be surfaced [GAP]. The region
defaults to nextbike 3-speed city bikes — structurally unsuited to a loaded wine
day.

3. The discovery layer is broken. VisitMosel's own directory lists 22 rental
stations with no URLs, no phone numbers and no prices [V].

Weinradweg products — the closest analogue found anywhere

Weinwanderung TO GO, Rüdesheim [V]
— €49.50 for two people. Route description with map, QR codes to the winemaker's
own videos at each stop, two glasses, four 0.75 L bottles, tasting notes. 3.2 km
circular, ~1 hour, fully paved. Needs "ein Smartphone mit QR-Codescanner" and a
backpack. Wine supplied by Weingut Dr. Nägler; sold and operated by Rüdesheim
Tourist AG; transacted on regiondo. 48 h notice;
runs any day of the year.

This is the model in miniature: the winery supplies product and content, the
tourist board owns the transaction and the platform, the traveller self-guides.
Note how it solves wine logistics — by handing over the bottles at the start and
keeping the route to 3.2 km on foot. It designs around the problem rather than
solving it. That is the cheap version of the Australian idea, and it is worth
knowing it exists and sells year-round with no vehicle at all.

Wider Rüdesheim price band [V]: "Die etwas andere Wein-Erlebnis-Tour" ab €89;
Oehlke's Weinwanderung €45; guided Weinwanderung with Sekt + 4 wines + cable car ab
€45; "WALK. DRINK. REPEAT" €68; In Vino Veritas Eltville €21+.

Sandgrube 13, Winzer Krems [V]
— the Winzergenossenschaft answer. €16.50 pp; groups 20+ €14.50; schools €9.00;
free for Niederösterreich-CARD holders. Includes three tastings plus pastries.

Multi-day, sold by the tourist board itself —
Bernkastel "Klassische Radtour" [V]:
7 days, €559 pp DZ, €725 EZ. Includes 6 nights B&B, one 3-course regional meal,
a Weinprobe, maps. Luggage transfer, return transport and bike hire are all
OPTIONAL extras. Accommodation: "Hotels im ★★★ Sterne Bereich, Familienhotels bzw.
Weingüter." Season: "von Ostern bis Ende Oktober."

The board publishes 19 Radpauschalen and has itself taken on Reiseveranstalter
status to sell them — staffed by two named people in the tourist office. A
regional tourism body became the tour operator because nobody else would. That is
both a warning (the commercial operators didn't find it worth doing) and an
opportunity (a regional body may fund or distribute an Australian equivalent).
