International Synthesis — an index, not a conclusion
Cross-region conclusions from the five regional and thematic sweeps in this folder.
Captured 2026-08-12. Every claim here is sourced to a file where the underlying
evidence and its verification tag sit. Currencies are as the operator lists them.
⚠️ READ THIS BEFORE THE REST OF THE DOCUMENT
This file was audited on 2026-08-12 and did not survive the audit intact. Its
corrections are recorded in
the Audit And Corrections chapter; disputed claims below
are struck through and annotated in place rather than deleted, so a reader can see
which way each error pointed.1. This is an index, not a completed sweep. Every regional file in this folder
opens by disclaiming exhaustiveness — "the session's search quota was exhausted
early… operators only findable by search may be missing" (README),
"WebSearch was unavailable for the entire session, so negative findings that
depend on broad discovery cannot be treated as exhaustive" (03), "absence of
evidence… is not proof" (02). This synthesis originally carried none of those
caveats and stated their negatives flat. Discovery was done by direct fetches of
known operator domains, reading public marketing pages. In a sector where this
corpus documents that support is routinely arranged by phone and never
advertised, services that are not advertised cannot be counted by reading
advertisements. Read every "nobody does this" here as "not advertised by any
operator in this sample."2. §1, §2, §4, §5 and §12 must each be re-derived from source before any money is
spent — before booking a van, quoting the 29% grant to a winery, or printing a
response-time promise.3. Evidence tags are missing from this file. The other files carry 24–65 tags
each; this one carried one. Where a claim here is not struck through, check the
tag in the detail file it cites before relying on it.4. The detail files are sound. All 288 URLs in the corpus resolve, every price
re-fetched on 2026-08-12 confirmed, and the arithmetic checks out. The failures
are in this document's inferences and universal negatives, not in the underlying
numbers.
⚠️ CORRECTED. The original paragraph is struck through below. It overstated the
negative, and the corpus contains six counter-instances. See
the Audit And Corrections chapter §7.1 S-4 and §5.6.
Roughly 90 operators were examined across France, Italy, Spain, Portugal,
Germany, Austria, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and Chile.
Not one runs a roving support van for self-guided customers. The van exists only
on guided products, dedicated to one group, priced into a trip costing three to
four times the self-guided equivalent.
What actually survives scrutiny — three conjoined conditions, not one clean gap:
No operator found runs a vehicle that is (a) continuously circulating, (b)
carries a published response window, and (c) delivers wine purchases to the
guest's own accommodation.
Each condition on its own is common. It is only the conjunction that is unoccupied —
and that is a far thinner wedge than "nobody does this."
On-demand, phone-dispatched rescue for unrelated self-guided hire customers
already exists at at least six operators in this corpus: Wine Tours by Bike
("on road back up", plus free wine pickup and a 15 km shuttle, NZ$65 —
the Aggregators And Shared-Cost Support Models chapter calls it "the closest existing business
to the concept anywhere") · Bike 2 Wine ("a bicycle rescue service, for any
reason") · Zoom Leisure ("Emergency roadside assistance" included) · Bloomfield
("Call us and we'll come and fix you on the spot if we can; or bring you another
bike") · Grapemobile, Australia ("complimentary roadside assistance in the vicinity
of our designated trails") · La Rioja Bike Tours ("si no puede resolverlo por su
cuenta, lo atenderemos sin costo alguno").
priced into a trip costing three to four times the self-guided equivalent —
the only within-operator measurement in the corpus is +41% (Top Bike Portugal,
€1,574 → €2,220). The "three to four times" figure compares Backroads against
European self-guided, i.e. different operators in different market tiers. See §7.
Self-guided support is, almost without exception, a phone number with no published
response time and no stated policy for a rider who cannot continue — though note
§3 below names two operators that do publish a response window, which contradicts
§12 of this same document (see the Audit And Corrections chapter §7.1 S-6).
Every component of the Cellar Door Cycling idea has been built somewhere — wine
collection in Niagara and Hawke's Bay, bike delivery to accommodation in Napier and
Kelowna, shared scheduled shuttles in Central Otago and Stellenbosch, a pooled 24/7
rescue subscription in Germany — but no one found in this sample has run them
together, all day, as one shared, continuously circulating service.
