The four findings that matter most
⚠️ All four headline findings were corrected on audit, 2026-08-12. Corrections
are inline below; detail in the Audit of the New World research chapter.
The prices in this file all re-verified exactly. The errors are in the
generalisations.
- Wine collection is already a standard, free inclusion in New Zealand.
At⚠️ THREE NZ operators run an afternoon "we'll pick
least four NZ operators
up your wine" vehicle — On Yer Bike, Explore Marlborough, Wine Tours by Bike. (The
fourth counted here was Napa Valley Bike Tours — California. Central Cycle
Trail's "one bottle per 3 pax" is an inclusion, not a collection service.) Two of
the three are in Marlborough, so the sample is one region deep.
None of them charge for it. It is a marketing inclusion, not a revenue line. - Door-delivery of bikes to a guest's own accommodation exists but is thin and
cheap. Takaro Trails prices it "from $25 per person" —the only published⚠️ the only one found in this scan.
price for it found on three continents
The International Synthesis chapters list four more (Zoom Leisure, Bloomfield,
Freedom Bike Shop) and the Precedent Hunt chapter a fifth in Australia (Deluxe
Ebike Tours, A$120/day). Napier City Bike Hire, Bay Cycles and Sonoma
Adventures all do it without publishing a fee.⚠️ And $25pp is a retail price, not a cost. It is explicitly "from" and
"depends on location and numbers" — the floor for a large group close to base.
Do not use a competitor's best-case list price as your own cost basis. (D-5 in
the New World audit) - The shared-cost precedent is the fixed-schedule shuttle, not a roving van.
Trail Journeys, Takaro, Bike It Now! and Around The Basin all sell per-person
seats on scheduled vehicles serving many unrelated customers.Vine Hopper in⚠️ Vine Hopper is a
South Africa is the purest shared-vehicle economics case
repeating same-day circuit (5–6 departures/day), not a daily loop — see the
corrected entry in the South Africa chapter — and the "purest case" superlative
is unearned: the Franschhoek Wine Tram (R350pp, five colour lines) is bigger
and cheaper, at R450 per person per day. Nobody prices rescue.⚠️ WRONG — contradicted four times by this very
file. On Yer Bike prices recovery at $50 per bicycle; Wine de Roads sells the
van standalone as a dinner driving service from $65; Trail Journeys sells
vehicle relocation at $350/$500 and luggage at $45–50 per movement as
standalone bookable services.
The surviving finding is narrower: no operator in this scan sells a
subscription or a per-day roving-rescue product. "Rescue service", "roadside
assistance" and "on-road back up" are free inclusions when bundled with hire —
which is a different and much weaker claim. (D-2 in the New World audit)

- Pricing [VERIFIED]: from NZ$65 for 6-hour hire; short hire $12.00 per
person per hour, 3-hour minimum, after noon only. - Included, their words [VERIFIED]: "detailed winery map, friendly advice,
high vis helmet, on road back up, wine collection". Two start windows:
10am–4pm (9:30am pickup) or 11am–5pm (10:30am pickup). - Support [VERIFIED]: free shuttle within a 15 km radius of Renwick,
including Marlborough Airport (5 min away) with luggage storage while you ride.
Explicit exclusion list (Picton, cruise dock, DOC campsites). "On road back up"
is advertised but [NOT FOUND] any response time or radius for it. - Wine logistics [VERIFIED]: free wine pickup if you buy more than you can
carry. Bikes have dedicated wine panniers. - E-bikes: they refuse to stock them [VERIFIED]. Their Q&A says they don't
hire e-bikes because of the combination of alcohol and heavy bikes. This is
the clearest alcohol-risk-driven fleet decision in the entire scan. - Tasting fees: not included, $15–$30pp for 3–7 wines; a typical day is
4–5 cellar doors. - Booking: FareHarbor. Season: closed June–August, reopens September.
- ID requirement: passport, NZ licence or NZ 18+ card — international licences
not accepted.
Bike 2 Wine Tours
- URL: https://www.bike2wine.co.nz/ · Renwick, co-located with Olde Mill House B&B

service to ensure you have a worry free day out". [NOT FOUND] response
time, radius, or whether the rescue costs anything. - No e-bikes at all — they explicitly refer customers elsewhere. No child seats.
- Accommodation tie-in [VERIFIED]: complimentary bikes for Olde Mill House B&B
guests staying 2+ nights, 50% off for one-nighters. The closest thing found
anywhere to bikes bundled into a room rate. - Season: open by appointment only, 1 June – 5 October 2026.

e-bike from NZ$385; driving tours from NZ$600. - Support: free shuttle pickup/dropoff within central Blenheim, Renwick and
Spring Creek on full-day bookings. Breakdown assistance "via phone call" —
[NOT FOUND] response time. - Wine logistics, verbatim from their FAQ [VERIFIED]: "You can leave it at the
winery with your name on it, let us know, and we'll pick it up" — collected to
base at day's end. - Weather policy is commercially interesting [VERIFIED]: on guided tours
"we'll switch you to a driving wine tour at no extra cost"; self-guided
customers can switch days free with 1 hour notice. They hedge bike weather
risk with a van product. - Distances are short: half-day ~4–6 km, full day ~10 km. This is a drinking
product, not a cycling product. - Booking: FareHarbor; also distributed via advcollective (listed at NZ$68.39)
and Viator/TripAdvisor. - Groups: "We can accommodate groups of all sizes."
Bike Hire Marlborough
- URL: https://www.bikehiremarlborough.co.nz/ · also at 193 Rapaura Road, The
Vines Village — the same address as Explore Marlborough, so the two are
related or co-tenanted. [NOT FOUND] the relationship. - From NZ$45, 3-hour and full-day. Helmets, baskets, maps included. FareHarbor.
- Accommodation pickup/dropoff is mentioned only inside a customer review quoted
on the page, not as a published product. [NOT FOUND] e-bike pricing.
Explore Marlborough Wine Tours — a wine-bike operator currently for sale SOLD (and the same business as the entry above)
⚠️ CORRECTED, twice over. See D-3 in the Audit of the New World research
chapter.1. This is not a second business. It is the same Explore Marlborough priced
in full earlier in this section — homepage<title>"Explore Marlborough Wine
Tours", both at The Vines Village / 193 Rapaura Road. It was entered twice, once
as a live competitor and once as a for-sale listing, and never reconciled.2. The Bayleys listing now shows SOLD, so "currently for sale" is wrong as of
2026-08-12.Two conclusions downstream of this need re-reading: the "realistic shape of a
successful wine-bike business" callout below, and the "4 months holiday"
seasonality datapoint that the Failures, Seasonality And Regulation and
International Synthesis chapters both use as a headline — it comes from a
sold business's sale listing.
- Listing: https://www.bayleys.co.nz/listings/business/marlborough/marlborough/-explore-marlborough-wine-tours-blenheim-4134942
- Base at The Vines Village, Blenheim, "with easy access to premium cellar
doors, breweries and restaurants". Two revenue lines: guided bicycle wine
tours with expert guides, and quality bike rentals for self-designed touring. - "A full roster of guides"; "an operations system that is fine tuned for optimal
performance". Qualmark Gold, TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, 5-star.
Sold with systems and processes, requiring "no previous technical skill". - Seasonality, the candid bit [⚠️ RE-TAGGED [SECONDARY] — this is a
real-estate agent's marketing copy about a third party, not the operator's own
site; it was originally tagged [VERIFIED]]: the owners
take "4 months holiday during winter". "Record revenue and returns" for the
2023 summer season — a three-year-old figure presented in a 2026 scan. - Price: "For Sale by Negotiation". [NOT FOUND] revenue, EBITDA, asking
price, fleet size, staff count.
A vendor-side disclosure beats marketing copy. This is the realistic shape of a
successful single-region wine-bike business: two owners, seasonal guides, a
four-month winter shutdown, no published financials.
