4. Wine logistics — the clearest unoccupied ground

Exactly one operator on three continents runs a working wine-collection service
for self-guided customers as a headline promise: Grape Escape in Niagara —
"We will even pick up any wine purchases!", free, from participating wineries
booked through them, purchased before 3:30pm, collected 16:30–17:00 to their
office (the Canada — Niagara chapter).

New Zealand is the one region where it is close to standard, and it is always
free and always a single afternoon sweep to the operator's base (the Region — New World chapter):

• On Yer Bike: "Buy your wine at a cellar door before 3:00pm, and we will pick
  it up and have it ready for you to collect at our base between 4:00 – 5:00 PM."
• Explore Marlborough: "You can leave it at the winery with your name on it,
  let us know, and we'll pick it up."
• Wine Tours by Bike: free pickup if you buy more than you can carry, plus
  dedicated wine panniers on the bikes.
• Napa Valley Bike Tours and Wine Country Bikes both offer "wine-purchase
  pickup" — but bundled into packages, not sold standalone.

Everywhere else it ranges from grudging to absent:

• "If we happen to have space" — Discover France: "happy to transport it for you
  if our transport is available, but alcohol is your individual purchase."
• "Buy it, but not our problem" — Bourgogne Evasion: "we aren't responsible for
  wine sold, breakages, shipping or losses."
• "You carry it" — Cycling for Softies: "room in your pannier."
• Total silence — Headwater, Inntravel, UTracks, Abicyclette, Détours de Loire,
  Girolibero, Portugal Bike (26,000 characters of FAQ), Puglia Cycle Tours, Trail
  Journeys.

The most damning single finding in the whole scan: fixed-string searches for
Weinversand, Weinpaket, Weintransport, Weinkauf, Versand, "nach Hause", Kiste
across the full HTML of Eurobike's, Velociped's and Rückenwind's Rhine and Mosel
Winzertouren returned zero hits on every term across all three pages. Three
German operators run a daily van between the exact hotels where guests are buying
wine, on tours whose selling point is three wine tastings, and not one offers to
carry a bottle (the The global majors — apps, the wine-logistics void chapter).

Why this is a structural blind spot rather than a competitive one. Their van is
doing point-to-point luggage between hotels on a one-directional itinerary. The
customer is 40 km further down the valley every night. A van circulating a loop,
for customers who return to the same bed, has spare capacity precisely where
theirs has none. Nobody is defending this ground because nobody's route shape allows
them to occupy it.

One caution. Every free wine-collection service in the world ends at the
operator's base, never at the guest's accommodation. That is the shortcut that
makes it free, and it is the shortcut Cellar Door Cycling gives up by promising
delivery to the short-let.
